Vanishing Laird Lord Pitsligo

Thanks to the permission of James Taylor, his 1992 booklet “The Vanishing Laird Lord Pitsligo” is now scanned and included in the Clan Forbes Reference Library in the Members section of the website. This 27-page book includes photographs of modern-day locations and details of the remarkable “disappearance” of Alexander Forbes, 4th Lord Pitsligo, who was “Head of Horse” or cavalry commander for Charles Edward Stuart, the “Bonnie Prince Charlie” of the Jacobite Uprising of 1745. For excerpts, see Vanishing Laird Lord Pitsligo.

John Forbes of Corse (1593 – 1648) is featured on the cover of the September-October 2019 edition of "History Scotland" magazine. He was the second son of Patrick Forbes of Corse Castle, bishop of Aberdeen. A Scottish minister and theologian, Forbes considered the National Covenant an unlawful bond, and in April 1638 he published a tract against it entitled "A Peaceable Warning to the Subjects in Scotland."

Forbes Y-DNA Group Rebooted at FamilyTreeDNA

Society Member Kenneth L. Forbes first organized a Forbes surname Y-DNA group at FamilyTreeDNA in the Autumn 2004. Unfortunately, he passed away in 2014. This month, Society President Bart Forbes stepped in as group administrator. He has refreshed the website content and run a number of new reports and analyses. Of the Forbes group participants (170 as of September 2019), a majority (66.7%) show a genetic connection to the Western Europe Haplogroup R1b1a1a2 or R-M269. Far smaller percentages of FORBES group participants indicate Haplogroups I-M253 (6.67%) and I-M223 (4.76%.) For more information. see Forbes Surname Y-DNA Group Rebooted at Family Tree DNA.
