2020 Clan Forbes Tour Day Six

The Clan Forbes Society has partnered with Thistle Dubh Enterprises and Jamie, Lord Sempill, of Clan Chief Tours to create a bespoke Forbes ancestral tour for twenty people in August 2020.

Our first stop will be Corgarff Castle built in the mid-16th century by Forbes of Towie. This was the site of the tragic murder of Mistress Margaret Campbell Forbes and her daughters by Adam Gordon as relayed in the ballad “Edom o’ Gordon.” After the Jacobite risings of the 18th century, it was rebuilt as a barracks and once held a whisky distillery.

The rest of the day will be devoted to the Clan Forbes own Lonach Highland Gathering and Games, the friendliest Highland Games in Scotland. The Lonach Highland and Friendly Society was founded in 1823 by Sir Charles Forbes, 1st Baronet of Newe and Edinglassie (1773-1849). Lunch and refreshments will be provided. The Lonach Pipe Band sounds the Retreat around 5:30 p.m.

We head back to Aberdeen for our final night at the Chester Hotel. Chester Hotel is comprised up of three granite villas that have been converted and linked together – provides guests with spacious rooms, a small bar area and an award-winning restaurant.
