James de Forbes, son and heir of Sir Alexander de Forbes (later the first Lord Forbes) obtained a charter of the lands of Corsindae from Alexander Seton of Gordon in 1444. In the following month, he subscribed a bond of manrent to Seton of Gordon. He founded the major branch of the Forbes of Corsindae, whose cadet families later included Forbes of Monymusk and Forbes of Leslie.

William Forbes, fourth laird of Corsindae, began construction in 1580 of an L-plan tower house with a circular stair tower, a popular design among Scottish nobility for its defensible structure. Sometime in the 1720s, William Duff, Baron Braco of Kilbryde (later first Earl Fife), purchased and greatly expanded the estate. He had married Lady Janet Forbes (c. 1695–1720), widow of Hugh Forbes, Younger of Craigievar. He later sold the estate to clansman James Duff of Corsindae (1678 - 1762), a wealthy Banff merchant. He made additional improvements to the castle. Over time, the castle evolved into a U-plan mansion, with a large wing west of the tower in the 18th century, with a south facing central entrance.

The owners placed Corsindae Estate on the market in August 2025 with an asking price of £4,400,000. The house includes six bedrooms, three baths, and five reception rooms, with wood fixtures and furnishings. A second driveway leads directly to Corsindae Home Farm, where Corsindae Cottage and Home Farm Cottage are located. The Milton Burn, a long river, cuts through the estate. The land includes 216 acres of arable ground, 355 acres of pasture, and 62 acres of rough grazing, with approximately 369 acres of grazing let on a seasonal basis. There are also 400 acres of amenity woodlands and commercial plantations.
