Lady Mary Rigby Forbes of Newe, MBE, has passed away peacefully at the Inchmarlo Care Home. She was the wife of Major Sir Hamish Stewart Forbes, 7th Baronet, MBE, MC, KStJ, who predeceased her. She was a enthusiastic supporter of the Lonach Highland Games and Gathering. In August 2022, she joined the members of the Clan Forbes Society in the Lonach stands dedicated to her husband, Sir Hamish.
Mary Christine Rigby is the daughter of Ernest William Rigby. In 1970, she was appointed Member, Order of the British Empire (MBE), for her work as the Personal Assistant to United Kingdom Permanent Representative to the United Nations, New York. She married Sir Hamish in 1981.
She is survived by Sir Hamish’s children from a previous marriage: Sir James Thomas Stewart Forbes of Newe, 8th Bt.; Caroline Serena Forbes; Jane Henrietta Mary Forbes; Christian Clare Forbes; and grandchildren. Funeral service will take place at Strathdon church on Monday 19th June at 11:30 am. Donations in lieu of flowers very welcome in the aid of Strathdon Silver Circle and Lonach Society School of Dancing.
